Curriculum

Wonder Awhile Nursery School, which is sponsored by the United Methodist church, is a self-supporting, not-for-profit organization which has served the greater Winthrop area for 45 years.Our purpose is to provide a well designed learning environment which addresses each child’s social, physical, emotional and intellectual development and needs. The nursery school is a nurturing setting which provides for the children’s growth and fulfillment. Here you will find the child’s world of play, wonder and exploration with his teachers and peers is encouraged and supported, with many opportunities available to:

  • Work and play with others his own age, with various needs and abilities.
  • Develop new skills as he is ready.
  • Learn to listen and follow simple directions.
  • Assume responsibility commensurate with his age and abilities.
  • Experiment with clay, paint, glue, markers, pencils, crayons, scissors and other art media.
  • Discover the joys in the natural world through science and nature.
  • Sharpen the five senses.
  • Create with blocks and other building materials.
  • Develop confidence and skills in speaking.
  • Enjoy and appreciate good books.
  • Become acquainted with colors, numbers, letters, sizes, shapes and other concepts.
  • Enjoy a variety of musical experiences through singing, rhythm instruments, movements, and listening to music.
  • Develop muscular strength through physical activities and games both inside and outdoors.
  • Explore the community, including meeting various community workers, family relationships, field trips, guest visitors, physical activities and games.
  • Practice good health and safety habits.
